What a good spares list looks like
We help customers build a stocking list once a year. The exercise usually removes more part numbers than it adds.
Once a year we sit down with our larger accounts and rebuild their spares list. The result is almost always fewer part numbers, not more.
The reason is that plants accumulate elements. A machine gets replaced and its filter stays on the list for six years. Consolidating onto fewer, more common elements is usually possible and always cheaper.
